Why onions

Shelf-life: Extended under proper storage, creating off-season supply.
Price arbitrage: Lean-season prices surge 2–3x as imports from Niger/Burkina flood the market.
Predictability: More consistent cultivation than tomatoes or peppers.
Staple demand: Essential to West African cuisine — inelastic demand.
Storage value: Onions are "batteries" for value: store them, release them when prices peak.

Tomatoes in Akuase failed to fruit due to heat stress. Peppers fruited but stopped early. Onions remain the most predictable crop in our portfolio.

Why Ghana

Home advantage: Land acquisition is automatic and less costly than foreign jurisdictions.
Diverse agro-ecology: Sandy soils (Eastern Region) and clay soils (Upper East) — systems that work across soil types.
ECOWAS access: Location enables export to Burkina, Niger, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire.
Political stability: Predictable business environment.
Talent pool: Deep agricultural labour force with generational knowledge.

Different soil types are not a liability — they are data points. The more environments we test in, the more robust our Onion Operating System becomes.

Our 10-year vision

We are not aiming to be the largest onion producer in Ghana by brute force. We are building a system that, once operational, naturally becomes the largest producer.

Year 1–3 Perfect the Onion Operating System across 3–5 regions.
Year 3–5 Expand the outgrower network to 100+ farmers.
Year 5–7 Establish 3 storage hubs — Upper East, Eastern, Bono East.
Year 7–10 Export-ready production; process onions (dehydrated, powdered) for international markets.
